okay, this is awesome. but I find it odd that the theme song to "alf" is instrumental -- I feel like in general, the odder a show's concept, the more you need lyrics to help explain or at least provide hints to the point of the show. for example, '80s classic "out of this world," about the girl who was half-alien, half-human, used a modified version of a song titled something along the lines of "would you like to swing on a star," which didn't actually *say* that she was half-alien but referred to earthlings and celestial beings and gave the viewer a heads-up that this was not your typical sitcom. but "alf" does none of this -- nothing in the theme song reveals that this sitcom involves a small, furry alien from melmac. perhaps the opening montage (the contents of which escape me right now) provides some exposition, but I think some lyrics would help things along.

and this, ladies and gentleman, is why I don't ordinarily stay up until 3am. I get way too worked up over the proper contents of a tv show's theme song...and then I stay up even later finding further examples to prove my point. I'm about to go do that now. good night, folks (and thanks for the par-tay, matt) -- ericat13, who will be cursing her east-facing bedroom window in about 4 hours

oh, I didn't even notice the samurai pizza cats. I can't imagine that they're *not* somehow related to the ninja turtles, since otherwise -- heck, even so -- it's a terrible, terrible concept.

did anyone else do the hand motions along with "skinnamarink" (better known as the closing song on "the elephant show" with sharon, lois and bram)? *sigh* good times...

listen to it on the website! it's the most adorable song ever, and the show it accompanied was also pretty awesome.

speaking of kids' tv, I spent a good hour last night simultaneously wiki-ing, IMDB-ing and you tube-ing the '80s-tastic disney show "kids, incorporated," which includes among its alumni mario lopez of "saved by the bell," jennifer love hewitt, and fergie of the black eyed peas. this show was the highlight of my day during my formative years, but it's HORRIBLE. it is a horrendous television show, and I would be supremely embarrassed to have ever enjoyed it except that I know lots of other kids did, too. but WOW is it bad. WOW.

1) I have some memory of the Alf opening credits, as I watched 2 re-runs of it every day in about 4th grade as I did my homework. If it was 30 seconds long, I would guess that approximately 3 seconds were devoted to exposition, 9 seconds to obligatory shots of the cast members, and the remaining 18 to Alf chasing around the family cat and trying to eat it. I would also like to mention here that the Alf video game for the Sega Master System was approximately the most awesome thing, ever.

2) Why is the A-Team theme longer than the show itself?

3) I did not know that "skinnamarink" was from a TV show, but I can tell you that the alternate lyrics from when I had to sing it in music class were:

Skinnamarink, you stink, you stink
Skinnamarink, you do...
I... hate... you

Weird Al, eat your heart out. That's right. Eat it. Just eat it.

4) I would like to note that before this was ever posted, I had recently downloaded the MacGyver and Magnum, PI themes to my phone to use as ringtones. Now they will have to be joined by Bonanza, Gilligan's Island, Jeopardy!, Saved by the Bell, and the Price is Right. I think I was an old man at a young age.

5) It is sad that I recognize the Ducktales theme as an extended version and (I think) a cover. There are definitely words there that were not in the original, and I know because I still remember them by heart.

6) I have to go now and purge myself of this shame somehow. Maybe I'll feel better after 14 or 15 straight hours of Masterpiece Theater.
