this was HILARIOUS. my neighborhood seems to be the heart of hipsterland, wa (I've seen wayyyyyyy too many men in tight jeans and girl-sized hoodies, but then it *is* nice to have so many knitting stores around), so I found this highly amusing. and so nicely juxtaposed against the ironic t-shirt! hmm...are geeks the new hipsters?

I would like to say that I quite like both of these things. If making fun of hipsters is wrong, then I don't want to be right. I wish I had the time to turn the "Construct your ideal hipster from component pieces of these actual hipsters" game Kat and I played at the Decemberists show into some sort of Flash phenomenon, which would certainly earn us some measure of Intarweb fame.

My only concern is that in deliberately avoiding hipsterdom in my own life (dressing in a pleasant enough but nondescript manner, unironically enjoying the work of some popular bands), I may almost be verging too close to hipsterdom myself. After all, anti-hipsterdom may in fact be the new hipsterdom. I need to be careful with this.

Finally, I would just like to note that I think I have earned that shirt, as I spend a goodly portion of my day compiling my own copy of Pine from source code. The convenience Nazis at Yale ITS added some sort of "security" feature to the version on the Pantheon that makes it no longer save your password, thus wasting my valuable seconds every time I log in (or approximately 200 times a day). So I re-compiled my own copy of Pine with password-saving back on, and if that doesn't make me 1337, I don't know what does.
